Juneteenth, officially known as Juneteenth National Independence Day, is a holiday that commemorates the emancipation of enslaved people in Texas, specifically in Galveston, Texas, on June 19, 1865. It’s the longest-running African American holiday and is celebrated to honor the freedom and perseverance of Black Americans. Juneteenth became a federal holiday in 2021.
Happy Juneteenth!
